Regular study & practice
You are invited to join us for regular meditation practice on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month at 3:00pm. We live within the peaceful tranquillity of the forest about 13 kilometres from Bellingen on the NSW mid-north coast. Since 1979 we have hosted many eminent Tibetan Buddhist (and other) teachers here.

Jakob Leschly, SIA’s resident instructor and scholar, has taught here since the late 1990s on his first visit to Australia. All of the many people in our area who come to hear him teach are very grateful that he can come on a regular basis as part of SIA’s teaching program.
Our personal connection to Jakob goes back to 1977/78 in Kathmandu when Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche and Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche gave some two months of empowerments and teachings. The young tulkus of the Nyingma lineages were all present, and now they are our current teachers.
Some of them have come to teach in Bellingen over the years: Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, Jigme Kyentse Rinpoche, Tulku Pema Wangyal Rinpoche, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, Sogyal Rinpoche, Chime Rigzin Rinpoche, Karma Lhundrup Rinpoche, Lama Pema Dorje. Teachers of other Tibetan traditions have also come to teach, including Gyalse Tulku Rinpoche, Geshe Thinle and the Gyuto monks.
PERSONAL RETREAT HUT
Available for bookings of 1 week to 3 months
Situated in the uniquely beautiful Bellinger Valley on the mid-north coast of NSW, Australia, this meditation hermitage was built to provide a place for students to practice on their own without the usual distractions of daily life.
A group of some 43 volunteer builders and sponsors joined together to construct the hut over several months. During an SIA teaching weekend assembled practitioners, led by Jakob Leschly, performed a Riwo Sangcho practice to initiate the project. The hut was auspiciously consecrated by Jigme Khyentse Rinpoche and later blessed by Chagdud Khandro and Karma Lhundup Rinpoche.
This personal retreat hut is available for students wishing to deepen their meditative experience with the support of this precious and rare situation.
For those who would like to embark on a personal retreat of a week or more, Tricia and Stephen provide such support as shopping and emergency communications.
Suggested donations are $35/night for the first two weeks and $25/night thereafter.
