Readings from Milarepa’s Songs of Realisation

together with a short guru yoga practice of Milarepa

For the month of September, we invite you to join Jakob for a daily reading from The Hundred Thousand Songs of Milarepa, taken from the new translation by Christopher Stagg. These Zoom sessions will conclude with a brief guru yoga practice of Milarepa, written by Shabkar Tsogdruk Rangdrol, who is widely viewed as Milarepa’s re-embodiment.

While the stories and songs of realisation contained within this unique text reflect the practice of Vajrayana, Milarepa’s life and example has been an inspiration for Buddhists from all traditions, and this collection of songs has come to be known as one of the great classics of world literature. Reading these songs have been part of the wider Buddhist culture in Tibet ever since they were written down in the 16th century by Tsang-nyön Heruka. Click here if you'd like to see Christopher Stagg talk about the new translation.

The sessions are stand-alone, and you are welcome to join anytime. All textual material will be shared on-screen.

The readings will not take place on tsok-days, or during other programs, and are scheduled as follows*:

September 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, and 29

*All subject to last-minute change.

Time: 8-9pm AEST (Sydney, Australia time)
